How to play
- Players take turns placing a stone on an intersection (Black first). Stones never move once placed.
- Capture: a stone or group is removed when it has no empty point (liberty) next to it. You can't play a stone that would have no liberties unless it captures. You also can't repeat an earlier whole-board position (the ko rule).
- Territory: empty areas completely surrounded by one colour count for that colour. A group needs two separate "eyes" (enclosed empty points) to stay alive for good.
- Ending: when both players pass in a row, you mark the stones that are dead (they are suggested for you, and you can tap a group to change it) and both accept the score. Area scoring: your stones plus your territory. White gets komi (7 points on 9×9, 7.5 on larger boards) to make up for moving second.
- Against the computer, 9×9 is the best size: it is strongest there.
